Because a piercing is a hole in your body, minor infections are probable for as long as you have the piercing.
NEVER use dial, alcohol, peroxide or sprays!
Signs that your piercing is getting an infection include:
Redness and soreness around the site, the hole being irritated or itchy and/or pus discharge from one or both holes.
If you think you may be getting an infection, clean as instructed...
Mix 1 tablespoon of SEA salt (NOT table salt) with HOT water in a small dixie cup. Maneuver yourself so that the piercing fits directly in the cup, or until the edge is sealed around your skin so that you can turn the cup over on top of your piercing without the water spilling. Soak for 15 minutes at a time, about 3-5 times a day for about 3 days.
For oral piercings, We recommend Glyoxide brand (or equivalent) debriding agent, which can be found in the mouthwash section of most pharmacies. Follow label instructions.
Use warm, soapy water (We recommend DOVE white beauty bar) and a q-tip (or clean fingers) to gently but thoroughly clean off the "crusties" on both sides of the jewelry. Then, push the jewelry through to clean the part that was inside of the skin. Rinse the same way with warm water and a new q-tip, then reposition the jewelry into the correct postition.
Minimum healing times:
Immediately begin using ice constantly and ibuprofen every 4 hours to control swelling.
Any time anything goes into your mouth that is not ice or ice water, rinse with alcohol-free mouth wash.
To clean parts of the piercing that may be outside of the mouth, follow the instructions for the other piercings listed above.
No deep wet kissing or oral sex for 30 days.
